Historical Note: Violet Mary Eileen Isabella (Simpson) Scully was born on the 19th of September, 1902, in Penn,England, Amersham to William John Ritchie and Isabella Mary Jane (Jamieson) Simpson anddied August 9, 1976. She married Thomas Scully in 1924 and had two children, Michael andPeter. She was very civic minded and served on the hospital board in Lincoln, donated land forthe Kickapoo Creek Park and Washington Park (the fountain in Washington Park was restoredand the park was rededicated as Scully Park in her memory). She was instrumental in helping torestore the gardens at the Governor’s Mansion. She left land for the development andmaintenance of the Logan County Park and Trails Foundation which she founded.
